Adress By Ray Borg, Section Head Marketing Support Services - Air Malta
On behalf of Air Malta, I would like to welcome all guests - the Damascus airport authority, police, security officials, media representatives and our Genral Sales Agents in Syria, Golden Ray.
Today we are celebrating the first Malta-Damascus-Malta flight service after an absense of almost 10 years. this is in line with Air Malta's commercial strategy to take advantage of emerging opportunities and expand our network beyond Europe.
We see Damascus as an important hub in the Middle east region having old historical links to the island of Malta, and the capital city of an influential political and economic player in the whole of the Middle East region.
With this air link between Syria and Malta, Air Malta's commercial objectives are to:
1. Develop tourism from Syria to Malta
2. Offer a new destination to the Maltese to visit Syria either on business or pleasure
3. Promote Malta as a stop-over / connecting point to Europe for Syrians
4. Promote Malta as a stop-over / connecting point to Damascus for Europeans
5. especially promote malta as a connecting point to/and from Tripoli where we operate a short daily flight.
Air Malta is a reputable and full service european airline using modern Airbus aircraft and operating to over 40 destinations in Europe and North Africa.
As of today, the Damascus flight service will be three weekly flights, departing Damascus on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays, until the end of October 2010.
Air Malta offers attractive and competitive fares to Malta, Libya and Europe.
Air Malta has already started a marketing campaign and advertising in Syria including participation in the Damasquino Travel Show last week, various billboards across the country, press advertising, online banners and radio advertising. There will be more promotion in the next few weeks.
I would like to finish be thanking all Goverment and aviation departments and its officials that made this new operation posible, and especially our GSA in Syria, Golden Ray whose Chairman Mr. Ahmad Houboubati is no newcomer to Malta and who is also the Maltese Consul in Syria.
